World Cup Qualifiers: Super Eagles Defeat Rwanda 1–0 to Boost Qualification Chances

Nigeria revived their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification hopes with a narrow 1–0 win over Rwanda at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.

The decisive moment came in the 51st minute when Tolu Arokodare pounced on a loose ball inside the box and calmly finished past the Rwandan goalkeeper.

The opening half ended without a goal as both sides adopted a cautious approach. Nigeria’s backline, led by Calvin Bassey, held steady despite Rwanda’s adjustments after the break.

The Super Eagles suffered a setback early on when striker Victor Osimhen picked up an injury and was replaced by Cyril Dessers. However, the team pressed forward and held their ground to secure the much-needed three points.

With this result, Nigeria now sits on 10 points after seven games in Group C, while Rwanda remains on 8 points, keeping the qualification race tight.

Supporters flooded social media with praise for the team’s fighting spirit, though concerns remain over Osimhen’s fitness.

Nigeria will now look to carry this momentum into their upcoming matches as they continue the push for a place at the 2026 World Cup.
